Great American Clean-up 2008 GREAT
AMERICAN CLEANUP In addition, over 2,200 residents participated in various recycling activities held during the Great American Cleanup, including computer recycling, cell phone recycling, battery recycling, and plastic bottle recycling at the Wickliffe schools. The computer recycling collection generated over 6,400 pounds of computer equipment for recycling, more than doubling last year's collection. Many thanks to those who chose to recycle rather than discard into the landfill! In the area of beautification, nearly 50 volunteers donated many hours to plant the 2,500 plus flowers that were planted on Euclid Avenue, City sign boxes, landscape areas and the Wickliffe Cemetery as part of the GAC. Keep Wickliffe Beautiful is grateful to HFC Corp for their grant of $1500 and their employees who assisted with our planting projects. Our local results will be sent to Keep America Beautiful, Inc. for compiling into the national Great American Cleanup statistics that will be released in September 2008. Many thanks to all our volunteers for their participation in this year's cleanup activites!
Established by Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the nation's premier litter prevention and education organization, in partnership with state and local affiliates such as ours, the Great American Cleanup™ is our country’s largest annual cleanup, beautification and community improvement program. Each year, millions of volunteers in over 14,000 communities across the country take part in this program. This program provides a high-profile platform for activities that meet specific local needs, including recycling litter cleanups, litter prevention education, recycling drives, graffiti removal, beautification and community improvement projects, park renewals, clothes collection programs, river, lake and seashore cleanups, etc. |
