Arbor Day Ceremony
Arbor Day Ceremony - May 1, 2008
Wickliffe celebrated the 136th National Arbor Day at Levi Lane Park,
1950 East 296th Street, on Thursday, May 1. The Keep Wickliffe Beautiful
Commission hosted a short ceremony followed by a free hot dog lunch. The
Wickliffe Middle School Ecology Club assisted Mayor Thomas W. Ruffner
in the reading of the official Proclamation of Arbor Day for the City
of Wickliffe.
Many thanks to sponsors of the event, Recycling/Shredding Network and
the Wickliffe Rotary Club, for their donations toward the purchase of
the Arbor Day trees. Three Norway Spruce trees were planted at the park,
and area preschool children assisted with the planting by putting shovel
fulls of soil on the tree ball. Red maple and river birch tree seedlings
were distributed to all who attended, so that they can plant them at their
homes.
